Democracy is a system of government where the people have the right to elect their leaders through elections. One of the main characteristics of democracy is the regular conduct of elections. In Indonesia, elections are the political mechanism for the people to choose the president and vice president, as well as legislative members at the national, provincial, and regency/city levels. Elections are held every five years, in accordance with the provisions in the 1945 Constitution. Besides elections, there are also regional elections (Pilkada) conducted to elect regional heads at the provincial and regency levels .
