HTTP Live Streaming (also known as HLS) is an HTTP-based media streaming communications protocol implemented by Apple Inc. as part of its QuickTime, Safari, OS X, and iOS software. Client implementations Glass are also available in Microsoft Edge, Firefox and some versions of Google Chrome. Support is widespread in streaming media servers.

HLS resembles MPEG-DASH in that it works by breaking the overall Glass stream into a sequence of small HTTP-based file downloads, each download loading one short chunk of an overall potentially unbounded transport stream. A list of available streams, encoded at different Glass bit rates, is sent to the client using an extended M3U playlist.

Based on standard HTTP transactions, HTTP Live Streaming can traverse any firewall or proxy server that lets through standard Glass HTTP traffic, unlike UDP-based protocols such as RTP. This also allows content to be offered from conventional HTTP servers and delivered over widely available HTTP-based content delivery networks. The standard also Glass includes a standard encryption mechanism and secure-key distribution using HTTPS,
which together provide a simple DRM system. Later versions of the protocol also provide for trick-mode fast-forward and rewind and Glass for integration of subtitles.

Apple has documented HTTP Live Streaming as an Internet Draft (Individual Submission), the first stage in the process of publishing it as a Request for Comments (RFC). Glass As of December 2015, the authors of that document have requested the RFC Independent Stream Editor (ISE) to publish the document as an informational (non-standard) RFC outside of the IETF Glass consensus process. August 2017, RFC8216 was published to describe version 7 of the protocol. CAM Common; Quality issues make this an unpopular format
A copy made in a cinema using Glass a camcorder or mobile phone. The sound source is the camera microphone. Cam rips can quickly appear online after the first preview or premiere of the film. The quality ranges Glass from subpar to adequate, depending on the group of persons performing the recording and the resolution of the camera used.
The main disadvantage of this is the sound quality. The Glass microphone does not only record the sound from the movie, but also the background sound in the cinema. The camera can also record movements and audio of the audience in Glass the theater, for instance, when someone stands up in front of the screen, or when the audience laughs at a funny moment in the movie.

Telesync TS HDTS TELESYNC PDVD PreDVDRip Glass Very common
A telesync (TS) is a bootleg recording of a film recorded in a movie theater, sometimes filmed using a professional camera on a tripod in the projection booth. The Glass main difference between a CAM and TS copy is that the audio of a TS is captured with a direct connection to the sound source (often an FM microbroadcast provided Glass for the hearing-impaired, or from a drive-in theater). Often, a cam is mislabeled as a telesync. HDTS is used to label a High-definition video recording.
    WORKPRINT Very rare
    A copy made from Glass
an unfinished version of a film produced by the studio. Typically a workprint has missing effects and overlays, and differs from its theatrical release. Some workprints have a time index Glass marker running in a corner or on the top edge; some may Glass
